Jacob Pennington, 20, and Garrett Bagshaw, 18, appeared in court Friday. They are charged in connection with an assault on a 17-year-old boy that was captured on video.
PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. — More than a dozen people have been arrested in connection with the assault of a teenager in the East Valley.
On Friday, the two suspects appeared before a Pinal County judge again after being indicted by a grand jury.
Jacob Pennington, 20, and Garrett Bagshaw, 18, have both pleaded not guilty to charges of attacking a 17-year-old in November. The attack was captured on video.
According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, the video shows the teenage boy trying to back away from Pennington as he continues to chase him. According to court documents, Pennington punched the victim in the face several times.
Once in custody, those same documents allege that Pennington reportedly admitted to being part of a group called the “Gilbert Goons.”

Bagshaw was arrested when Pennington identified himself to county deputies during an investigation, according to court documents detailing Bagshaw's arrest.
In Maricopa County, five teenage suspects appeared in court Thursday for their involvement in a gang assault on another person in Gilbert.
Kyler Renner, 18, Gage Garrison, 19, and a 17-year-old boy have been arrested in connection with the December 2022 attack in a downtown Gilbert parking lot.
During Renner and Garrison's first court appearance Thursday morning, prosecutors claimed brass knuckles were used in the attack. According to court documents, the victim told investigators that she saw one of the suspects holding brass knuckles but did not know if they were used.
These same documents claim that when Garrison was arrested, police found brass knuckles on him.
The 17-year-old boy was in juvenile court. It was announced that he would be charged as an adult in this case.

Two other teenage suspects, Christopher Fantastic, 18, and Alice Arredondo, 18, also appeared in court. Both men are accused of assaulting another teen in the In-N-Out parking lot at Santan Mall last August.
Fantastic has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces. Arredondo's hearing was rescheduled after his attorney said he did not know the media would be at the hearing.
As Arredondo and two others were leaving the building, a 12News cameraman tried to ask Arredondo about the charges he was facing.
“Fuck, fuck, I'm innocent,” Arredondo responded before walking away.
Around the same time, Gilbert Police Chief Michael Solberg held another press conference regarding the ongoing teen assault investigation.
Police Chief Solberg currently has 10 open investigations into groups of teenagers attacking victims. He also said officers had arrested 14 people since the beginning of the year.
