‘THANK YOU, JESUS’: Video Shows Woman In Tears. Police Say They Thwarted Asylum Seeker’s Rape Attempt

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office in Florida released a video Friday showing an illegal immigrant attempting to rape a young woman after she called 911.

While making the emergency call, the woman pretended to order pizza, a common euphemism for rape and assault victims who don’t want to let their attacker know they’re seeking help.

When the sheriff located the caller, she screamed, “He’s trying to rape me, can you help me!”

“Hey, get away from her now!” one of the deputies is shown yelling in the video.

When police subdued the suspect, the alleged victim began crying and shouting, “Thank you, Jesus!”

The woman continued to thank God through tears, saying, “God tried to rape me.”

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said the suspect, Luis Diego Hernandez-Moncayo, 27, was in the country illegally and had applied for asylum the day before the incident.

“When you watch this video, if you’re a father, a grandfather, a brother… and you hear the screams coming from our victims, it’ll make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.” said Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood in an official police video. Chitwood said the victim knew Hernandez-Moncayo and they went into the fields together to drink, but “that was supposed to be it.”

“But during this outing, he did cocaine and she said he did a 180 and he got very violent and wouldn’t let her go and tried to rape her. I did,” Chitwood said.

The sheriff’s office charged Hernandez-Moncayo with attempted sexual assault, assault by strangulation and false imprisonment.

The U.S. Border Patrol also deployed immigration agents, the sheriff’s office said.
