The COVID-19 Emergency Officially Ended Today in Olmsted County

ROCHESTER, Minnesota (KROC-AM News) – The Olmsted County Commission today voted to lift the county’s COVID-19 emergency declaration.

The vote officially ended the COVID-19 public health emergency that came into effect more than three years ago and ushered in the new virus that caused the global pandemic. The Olmsted County Public Health Service is now focused on community prevention and coexisting with COVID-19, according to a statement.

“The situation in Olmsted County and Minnesota as a whole has improved significantly,” said OCPHS Director Dennis Daniels. “COVID-19 has become part of our lives and we remain committed to viral surveillance and promotion of vaccination.”

COVID-19 vaccines and boosters will continue to be provided at the Department of Public Health’s offices in the 2100 Building on the county campus just east of the federal penitentiary. Olmsted County residents can also continue to monitor her COVID-19 activity at the community level through her COVID-19 County Check website at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to the agency. The City of Rochester also posts wastewater data that tracks many pathogens, including COVID-19.
