Fox News host Bret Baier said Tuesday that he believes Vice President Kamala is willing to take part in the network's debates, but that former President Donald Trump does not appear to be interested in taking part.
While President Trump had agreed to debate on Fox News on September 4, the vice president never agreed to the debate. said Radio host Hugh Hewitt expressed surprise at Trump's apparent reluctance to debate Harris again, and argued that Harris would now accept an invitation to debate on Fox News. “The latest I'm hearing is that the Harris campaign will actually do the debate on Fox. The former president has come to the conclusion that there shouldn't be any more debates,” Beyer said. “I don't know what his reasons are. I've always thought of it as a backyard pest control, in the sense that you can't get away from the light of 70 million viewers. The feeling from him and the campaign is that if it's on Fox and it's something he can agree to, he's going to have to do it eventually. They're not going to get over it. And it's really not the Harris campaign or Fox that's holding up, it's the former president.”
ABC News debate moderators Lindsey Davis and David Muir came under fire for relentlessly fact-checking Trump during the Sept. 10 debate, allowing Harris to make false statements without any room for rebuttal. Trump made it clear on Sept. 12 that he had no intention of debating Harris again after her campaign requested another debate.
“She didn't show up to the Fox debate and refused to appear on NBC and CBS. Kamala should focus on what she should have done the last four years. There will be no third debate,” Trump said. Posts At Truth Social.
CNN's Chris Wallace said on September 13 that there was no chance that Harris would debate Trump on Fox News.
“I think the chances of her agreeing to debate on Fox are below zero, below zero,” Wallace said. “Let me tell you a little story: When she was running in 2019, the president of Fox News and I, who were supposed to be pretty unbiased, went and convinced a lot of Democrats to do town hall meetings and interviews. [Democratic Massachusetts Sen.] Elizabeth Warren met with us. [independent Vermont Sen.] Bernie Sanders met with us, but the only Democrat who refused to meet with us privately just to discuss a possible Fox appearance was Kamala Harris. There is zero chance she will agree to a Fox interview.”
Harris approved Trump is scheduled to hold a debate with CNN on October 23, but said it's “too late” because it's too close to the November election.
