Former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley claimed Tuesday that House Republicans are “peacocking” in impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“This shows the dysfunction in Congress,” Haley told CNN host Jake Tapper. “This speaks to the fact that they care more about peacocking than getting anything done. But let me say first, the first priority is securing the border. That's the focus and that's what should happen.”

The House Homeland Security Committee released draft articles of impeachment in January. The clause included “deliberate and systematic refusal to comply with the law” and “breach of public trust.”

“If the focus would go back to the border and look at the bill that was introduced last week, this wouldn't have happened,” Haley said. “It was weak in some ways and strong in others, but Congress should have stayed there and resolved it.”
