‘They Need To Hear Me’: Firefighter’s Widow Continues Searching for Answers a Year After Trump Rally Shooting

Firefighter’s Widow Seeks Answers After Trump’s Assassination Attempt

The widow of a firefighter tragically killed on July 13, 2024, expressed her need for answers regarding the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during an interview on Wednesday.

During a campaign rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania, Trump was shot in the right ear, which also left former volunteer fire chief Cory Comperatore injured. His widow, Helen, described the rally attendees as “sitting ducks.” She firmly stated, “Our blood is in their hands. I’m angry. I’ve lost the love of my life.”

In a segment on the “American Report,” she articulated her feelings, asserting, “We were all wearing ducks that day,” emphasizing the vulnerability of those present.

Reports indicate that the gunman, Thomas Crooks, was noticed by an attendee named Larry moments before the shooting, who alerted law enforcement. The Secret Service allegedly had prior knowledge of Crooks’ potential as an assassin nearly an hour before the attack.

“Why were they not paying attention?” Helen questioned. “Why did they think the roof wasn’t covered?”

The Secret Service not only acknowledged security lapses during the event but also faced scrutiny for their slow response in addressing the assassination attempt that impacted Trump. Kimberly Cittle, the then-director of the Secret Service, resigned a few days later after providing testimony to the House Oversight Committee.

When Fox News reporter Alexis McAdams asked Helen if she believed Crooks acted alone, she responded thoughtfully, “I honestly believe he can. I believe that kids can do those things when they’re not mentally right.”

Helen expressed a desire to engage with the Secret Service directly about the incident, questioning their failures: “Why Butler? Why Butler? Why did you fail so much? I want to sit down and talk to them. I have the right. They need to listen to me.”

Reports also revealed that Crooks conducted an internet search regarding November 22, 1963. He was noted to have spoken to himself, though authorities have yet to uncover a clear motive behind his actions.
