Border Concerns Raised by Former Official
Washington – Former White House Border official Tom Homan has stated that the lack of oversight during President Biden’s administration has complicated efforts to locate missing immigrant children. According to Homan, a significant number of unaccompanied minors were placed with adult “sponsors” without proper checks on these individuals’ backgrounds or living situations, making it challenging to find these children today. He expressed these concerns during a speech at the National Conservatism Conference in Washington, D.C.
Homan remarked that locating the estimated 300,000 immigrant children who have gone missing under the current administration is one of his greatest challenges. He pointed out that while it’s relatively easy to track adults—their activities are often documented digitally—these children often lack such a digital presence.
This situation forces authorities to depend on the limited digital information from the sponsors responsible for these minors. Homan mentioned that the lack of background checks on these adults has made it difficult to determine who they really are.
“Many of the places we check now, they’re mostly public spaces,” he said, referencing how they frequently visit parks, grocery stores, and churches in search of these children.
Warnings have been issued previously from a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) inspector regarding the heightened risk of human trafficking for these vulnerable children. Homan noted that the agency is actively trying to ensure the safety of the children by checking on their well-being.
Despite awareness of potential dangers, Homan criticized the Biden administration’s decision to release children into potentially unsafe environments. He indicated that the goal has been to minimize public backlash about detaining these minors in government facilities.
He noted, “They didn’t even verify addresses before releasing them.” Nonetheless, Homan revealed that his team had successfully located about 10,000 missing children during the Trump administration. He emphasized the previous administration’s commitment to finding these children despite criticism directed at its policies.
Homan also expressed his frustration, saying, “I want to emphasize again that we save children every day because of the incompetence of the current administration,” as he appealed to the audience for support.
