Tom Homan Explains to Stephen A. Smith Why It’s Necessary for the Trump Administration to Deport More Than Just Criminals

Border Enforcement Discussion

On a recent episode of “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Tom Homan discussed the challenges surrounding deportation policies under President Trump’s administration. He pointed out that the government cannot limit deportation solely to illegal immigrants who commit additional crimes, emphasizing the focus on those seen as public safety or national security threats.

Homan mentioned that while the priority is to target serious threats, collateral arrests do occur for others who may not fit that category. In response to public concerns about the administration’s deportation efforts, he argued that sending a message of leniency could be misleading. Only emphasizing extreme cases, he noted, might create a negative perception globally.

In this context, Smith queried Homan about public dissatisfaction, particularly from those who feel the deportation process isn’t stringent enough. Homan retorted that reports of immigrant attacks are often exaggerated, explaining that the majority of those arrested are indeed criminals. However, he acknowledged that prioritizing threats does not mean all others are exempt from legal proceedings.

He expressed worry that failing to enforce immigration laws could be perceived as unfair to those who go through the legal process to become citizens, creating a backlog for Border Patrol agents who already face humanitarian crises. Homan remarked on the need for clear communication regarding the proper ways to enter the country.

Interestingly, it’s reported that no illegal immigrants were released into the U.S. by Border Patrol agents during May, a trend that continued into June, contrasting sharply with practices during Biden’s term when thousands were released.
