“That is true. We don't have the resources to protect him. [Trump] “Just like when he was president,” one official told The Washington Post, which reported last week that events involving President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were competing for resources. Agents were also involved in preparations for the Republican National Convention, the paper said.
One former Secret Service agent blamed top leadership for the lack of resources.
“I hate to oversimplify it, but this is simply a supply and demand issue. Requests are routinely turned down,” former Secret Service agent Bill Gage told The Post. “Ultimately, someone has to come forward and say they're short-staffed and can't continue this zero-failure mission without a significant increase in the budget.”
Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday saying a whistleblower had told the committee that Trump aides were short-staffed due to the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., and Jill Biden's campaign event in Pittsburgh. Wray wrote: Give Witness on Wednesday before the House Judiciary Committee.
Since the July 13 assassination attempt, independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received They were now given Secret Service protection, something they had previously been denied.
