Phoenix (3TV/CBS 5) – Doug Clark has been in the news a lot since he became Maricopa County Constable in 2010, and that’s not always a good thing. Over the years, Clarke has filed numerous ethical complaints against him. It’s everything from speeding in county cars to impersonating peace officers to using excessive force.
Last summer, Clark was one of the constables at the scene of a shootout that forced tenants to evict a Phoenix apartment complex near 46th Street and Thomas Road. The constable reportedly crashed through a sliding glass door when the shot was fired.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Board of Constable Ethics, Standards, and Training. So did an incident a month later when Clark reportedly pointed a gun at a tenant during another eviction.
Arizona families learned that the longtime constable, who was re-elected to a four-year term last month in the Agua Julia district, has decided to step down as of Saturday. Ethics investigations should continue even after Clarke resigns.
Maricopa County Constable Mike Branham said, “Just because someone leaves doesn’t mean that investigations of any kind, whether criminal, civil, or board sanctions, are over.” It was to follow these paths to find out what the truth is and what has already happened.”
Clarke’s resignation letter to the county board of overseers states that he is retiring due to personal health issues. But given the recent incidents involving Clarke, critics suspect there may be more to it than that.
Retired Constable’s Dan Ryan thinks Clark is getting a bad rap. Ryan said Clark cared about people and was always dedicated to doing his job right. rice field. “I’ve had some great partners with other agencies and would love to have him by my side. He’s one of those people you call him and he’s there.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will appoint a temporary replacement for Clark in the coming months. Clark District voters will elect a new constable in November 2024.
