Cochise County, Arizona — Portions of Interstate 10 near the New Mexico border in Arizona are closed after an 18-wheeler crash that killed the driver on Wednesday, May 3.
The cicada veered off Interstate 10 and struck a post of the US 191 bridge around 2 a.m., according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. The impact set a large rig ablaze and severely damaged the bridge support.
Interstate I-10 westbound remains closed at the New Mexico border, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The driver allows him to take the SR 80, go through Douglas and Bisbee, and re-enter his I-10 at Benson.
The crash is under investigation. No other vehicle was involved.
