Trump Campaign Pledges To Do Town Halls If Kamala Harris Declines Other Debates

Former President Donald Trump's campaign said Saturday it intends to hold a town hall meeting if Vice President Kamala Harris declines an invitation to appear in two debates, the New York Post reported.

During a press conference on Thursday, Trump proposed three dates for the presidential debate, to be held on Fox News, NBC and ABC. ABC Washington bureau chief Rick Klein confirmed Thursday that both sides have agreed to participate in the ABC News debate on Sept. 10, but Harris has not yet committed to participating in the proposed Fox News Sept. 4 debate or NBC's Sept. 25 debate.

“I'm pleased that he has finally agreed to debate on September 10th,” Harris told reporters Thursday. According to “I'm looking forward to it. I hope he's here,” he told CNN.

“I'm happy to discuss holding additional debates after September 10th,” Harris added. (Related: 'She'll get a lot of benefits': Democratic strategist acknowledges Trump hatred is tilting media in favor of Harris)

Trump campaign associates said The New York Post reported Saturday that “a town hall meeting will be held” if Harris does not attend.

Before President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, he had agreed to debate Trump on ABC News on Sept. 10. After Biden dropped out, Trump initially suggested he would not debate Harris that day, then announced he had agreed to debate Harris on Fox News.

Harris has not held a press conference since becoming the Democratic front-runner after Biden withdrew from the race on July 21. President Trump, during a press conference on Thursday, criticized Harris for her lack of media appearances.

“She can't be interviewed. She's barely qualified and she can't be interviewed,” Trump said, “But I'm looking forward to the debate because I think we have to get the facts straight.”

The Trump and Harris campaigns did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
