The Trump campaign announced Saturday that its internal communications had been hacked by a hostile foreign entity.
Former President Donald Trump's campaign blamed the hack on “foreign sources hostile to the United States” in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation. Microsoft Intelligence Report The Trump campaign released a statement on Friday alleging that hackers with ties to the Iranian military “sent spear-phishing emails to senior campaign officials” in June. The hackers, who the Trump campaign claims are Iranian operatives, had been sharing stolen information with Politico since late July, the outlet reported. Reported.
“I don't think you should care where I get my information,” the person, who used an AOL email address and identified himself as “Robert,” told Politico. “Any answer to this question will put me at a disadvantage and will legally bar you from publishing the information.” (Related article: US indicts Iran-linked foreign national for allegedly plotting to assassinate President Trump)
Politico provided some insight into the content of the communications handed over by the hackers, reporting that in addition to internal Trump campaign communications, they received a trove of documents including an investigation conducted as part of the Trump campaign's vetting process for Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance.
“These documents were illegally obtained from foreign sources hostile to the United States and were intended to interfere in the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout the Democratic electoral process,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Chung told DCNF. “Iran knows that President Trump will stop their reign of terror just as he did during his first four years in the White House.”
Chang said the timeline of the hack outlined in the Microsoft report “roughly coincides with the period when President Trump selected his running mate.”

It's unclear whether Politico plans to release any further information it received from the hackers. The outlet did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
“Media and news organizations that reprint documents and internal communications are following the orders of America's enemies and doing exactly what they want,” Chang told DCNF.
Earlier this year, the US reportedly received intelligence indicating that the Iranian government was plotting to assassinate Trump, prompting the Secret Service to step up security for the former president.
