Trump Floats Massive Tariffs On John Deere If Manufacturing Shifts To Mexico

Former President Donald Trump threatened Monday to impose 200% tariffs on John Deere products if the company moves its manufacturing to Mexico.

At an event in Smithton, Pennsylvania, President Trump spoke with local farmers and manufacturers about the impact of China's economic policies on the U.S. economy. According to The former president highlighted his economic strategy to Vice President Kamala Harris, arguing that tariffs and increased energy production could help lower costs and protect local industry.

According to the Associated Press, President Trump highlighted John Deere's recent decision to move some of its manufacturing to Mexico and warned that he would impose a 200% tariff if the company went ahead with the plan under his administration.

“I see a John Deere tractor in the background. I know John Deere very well. John Deere previously said it would lay off about 610 workers at three plants in Illinois and Iowa. The company said on May 31 it would move production of skid steers and compact track loaders from Dubuque, Iowa, to Mexico by the end of 2026 as part of a broader strategy to increase efficiencies and manage rising manufacturing costs amid a changing business environment.
