A Fox News guest said Wednesday that despite a “reinvigorated” Democratic Party, Vice President Kamala Harris is still lagging behind former President Donald Trump in battleground states that will determine the outcome of the 2024 election.
Democrats quickly rallied around Harris after President Joe Biden took office. approved Harris announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination shortly after announcing in mid-July that she would not seek reelection. Alex Gangitano, White House correspondent for The Hill, agreed with Fox News host Neil Cavuto that Harris was “energizing” the Democratic Party but not attracting support from independents, making her unlikely to win key battleground states. “She's definitely energized her base. Democrats in Washington are excited about her, but that doesn't mean people outside the state aren't going to vote for them,” Gangitano said. “We've seen excitement and momentum building for her within the Democratic Party. We've seen celebrities on TV talking about how excited they are for her, people are raising money for her, and now it's been about a week. The question is, can she keep up this momentum and, as you say, can she make inroads in these key states?”

“We know this election will be decided narrowly in battleground states, and we will be visiting those states next week to figure out how to win over independents and moderates and expand our reach. It's a risky gamble given that Trump still has narrow leads in these battleground states, rather than Biden maintaining what he won in 2020,” Gangitano continued.
