Oval Office Discussion
In a recent sit-down, President Donald Trump expressed that he “doesn’t mind” the idea of James Comey and John Brennan facing arrest linked to the ongoing investigation into Russian interference. During an hour-long interview with Daily Caller, Trump mentioned he isn’t directly involved in the inquiry but feels it should culminate in arrests.
Here’s a snippet from that conversation. A comprehensive transcript will be available later.
Daily Caller White House Correspondent Reagan Reese asked Trump about Russiagate and noted that Director Gabbard had declassified some significant documents that she presented to the Department of Justice.
Trump inquired, “By the way, she’s coming with you, right?”
Reese followed up with, “Do you think there will be an arrest? Who do you think will be arrested?”
Trump replied, “It should happen. What they did was dishonorable. They lied and committed many wrongdoings. They did something unprecedented to me— no one thought it would occur. Honestly, they got so deep into it. They’re not just bad; they’re really disturbed. We committed no crimes— they did. Sure, I’m allowed to get involved, but I consciously choose not to. It can definitely be said they should face consequences.”
He continued, “They deceived everyone and then tried to blame me. It’s astonishing. They’ll label me as the villain. You know, people might say, ‘Let’s get him,’ but that’s not fair. The reality is they deserve scrutiny, and it’s interesting to think of how it might all play out.”
Reese then asked if he would be comfortable witnessing Comey and Brennan’s arrests on television.
Trump answered, “I wouldn’t mind at all.”
Reese pressed further, “Do you think it’s possible?”
Trump shared, “I might not have answered that way a few years back. Take Hillary as a case in point. Back then, I hesitated. I wanted things to be smoother, even when my supporters shouted for her to be locked up. But now, things feel different after I won.”
Reese remarked, “It seems this time is different.”
Trump countered, “I’m not sure about that. In the early days, we accomplished significant things— like improving the economy and enhancing military strength. Yet, the challenges we faced with immigration were immense, given the number of arrivals back then.”
Trump added, “When it comes down to it, those involved are indeed guilty. They are sick, very bad people.”
In July, Gabbard released documents indicating that former President Barack Obama and his national security team believed there was “overwhelming evidence” of politicized intelligence after the 2016 election. Gabbard then approached the Justice Department regarding the matter.
Comey and Brennan may be among the first facing indictments due to their roles in advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia during the election.
