President Donald Trump announced at Truthsocial that he is leading the appointment of New York Sen. Elise Stefanik as the UN ambassador.
In a statement Thursday, Trump wrote that it was “essential” for Republicans to “keep all Republican seats in Congress.” He did not announce who would nominate in place of Stefanik. (Related: Elise Stefanik turns Dem Sen’s table after biting his hearing time and asking UN candidates about musk.)
“With a very tough majority, I don’t want to get a chance from others running for Elise’s seat. People love Elise and don’t worry about election day with her. So there are others who can do a good job at the United Nations. Thank you for the amazing Elise!” Trump wrote.
Stefanik had not yet resigned from her place in Congress. CBS News It has been reported It’s not because she doesn’t vote for a few hours before Trump’s post that suspects Stefanik’s bid, but because of the slim majority of GOP. Republicans hold a small majority in their 218-seat home, while Democrats hold 213 seats.
The outlet reported that Republicans discussed waiting for Stefanik’s nomination vote until after the April 1 Florida special election, when two GOP seats were held. Democrat New York Gov. Kathy Hochul had planned a special slow-walking election on behalf of Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik.
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman James E. Riche told reporters ahead of the president’s announcement that he had just gotten the term Stefanik nomination.
“I got a call from the White House,” Riche told reporters, adding that the call had not yet been responded.
“As we move forward with America’s first agenda, it’s essential to maintain all Republican seats in Congress,” Trump wrote in his Truth Social Post.
“We must be united to achieve our mission. Elise Stefanik was an important part of our efforts from the beginning. As one of my biggest allies, I have asked to remain in Parliament and support us through historic tax cuts, great work, record economic growth, safe borders, energy control and peace through strength.
