The Trump Department is saving taxpayers billions after cutting many grants, according to an internal memo provided to the Daily Carener News Foundation by senior State Department officials.
The memo said that after the division cut more than 4,000 continuous grants worth nearly $4.4 billion, it saved about $60 billion after receiving a continued grant worth about $4.4 billion and another $54 billion multi-year award. The move was a continuation of the Trump administration’s crusade against wasted spending led by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which effectively hollowed out USAID and left the agency’s future in Limbo.
“President Trump has been given a mandate by the American people to ensure that every dollar the federal government spends advances in our national interests. Secretary Rubio is leading the way for the State Department and leads a rigorous review process for all federal funds spent on this agency,” a senior State Department official told DCNF. “In just a few weeks, he has identified $60 billion in savings for taxpayers, which is important and will help the sector concentrate on America’s number one priority, which is important to promote diplomacy around the world.” (Related: The Army caught the number of recruits with juice by registering fat)

Funding for “significant awards” under USAID, including “lifesaving and life-saving treatments for HIV, TB and malaria.” was retained. Critical support for countries such as Lebanon, Haiti, Venezuela and Cuba, according to the memo. The State Department focuses on eliminating “common sense” funds and hopes it will help “adjust subsequent programs with management priorities.”
It has been found that USAID has given countless suspicious grants under former President Joe Biden’s administration, including 65.5 million condoms, 9.8 million injectable birth control products and 334,000 IUDs in 2022. It was also revealed that both the State Department and USAID had given money to numerous left-wing nonprofits that arrested left-wing rants from prisons, including the Tides Foundation and Tides Center.
Additionally, the Biden Department of State has approved a $75 million payment to the UN Relief and Labor Service for Palestinian refugees in the Near East despite widespread concerns that the funds could be adopted by Hamas. Ultimately, a UN spokesman confirmed that UNRWA staff was “highly likely” in the attack on Israel on October 7th.
The memo said the cut coincided with Rubio’s commitment to making America stronger, safer and more prosperous.
