Trump Takes Firm Stand, Exits Paris Agreement Again

President Donald Trump issued an executive order Monday removing the United States from the Paris Agreement.

The New York Times reported that the United States will join Iran, Libya, and Yemen as non-participants in the Paris Agreement, which aims to curb global warming. reported. Trump previously withdrew from the agreement during his first term, but his successor, former President Joe Biden, will rejoin the agreement in 2021 after taking office.

The decision is aimed at increasing fossil fuel production and reducing investment in clean energy technologies such as electric vehicles and wind turbines, the paper said. In addition, President Trump notified the United Nations, which administers the Paris Agreement, of the United States’ withdrawal in a signed letter, setting a formal date for withdrawal one year after submission.

President Trump has said in the past that U.S. involvement in the Paris Agreement would hurt America’s economic competitiveness and would not have a significant impact on the climate.
