President-elect Donald Trump in a statement Wednesday nominated former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to serve as Director of National Intelligence in his second administration.
Gabbard, a former Hawaii state representative and National Guard member, left the Democratic Party in 2022. During the 2024 election, Ms. Gabbard supported Mr. Trump, helped prepare for debates and served as his campaign surrogate. Trump wrote that Gabbard brings a “fearlessness” to the intelligence community and helps ensure “peace through strength.”
“I am pleased to announce that former Congresswoman Lt. Col. Tulsi Gabbard will serve as Director of National Intelligence. For more than 20 years, Tulsi has fought for the freedoms of our country and all Americans,” President Trump said. wrote.
“As a former candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, she has received broad support from both parties and is now a proud Republican! I believe Tulsi brings the fearless spirit that characterized her distinguished career to the intelligence community. “I know that Tulsi will make us all proud!” he continued.

Gabbard joined the Republican Party just before Trump was elected to his second term as president.
