Trump to Instruct Hegseth to Compensate Soldiers During Shutdown

Government Shutdown Updates

As the government shutdown persists, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that military personnel will receive their paychecks on October 15 without interruption.

Trump noted that his administration has found funds to ensure that the 1.3 million active-duty service members affected will be compensated, directing Army Secretary Pete Hegseth to facilitate this payment. This announcement arrives amidst ongoing delays from Senate Democrats regarding the federal government’s reopening.

“If we do nothing, our brave troops will miss out on their rightfully due paycheck on October 15th because of ‘leader’ Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party,” Trump stated on Truth Social. “That’s why I’m using my authority as Commander in Chief to direct Army Secretary Pete Hegseth to utilize all available funds for this purpose.”

Military charities braced for challenges as online inquiries surged from service members seeking financial aid during the shutdown. Specifically, Air Force charities have reportedly raised “millions in potential funds” to aid those who might miss their upcoming paychecks.

In a related move, President Trump has also directed the White House to allocate tariff revenues to sustain the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) amidst the shutdown.

The White House has yet to offer a comment regarding these developments.
