Trump Unveils Tribute For Former Fire Chief Killed During Rally Attack

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump on stage at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday night unveiled a memorial for former fire chief Cory Comperatore, who was shot and killed at a rally last weekend.

The former president was seen standing next to Comperatore's memorial as Trump took the stage on the final night of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was seen walking to the other side of the stage to salute the crowd as workers removed Comperatore's fire jacket and helmet. At the beginning of his speech, President Trump spoke about the incident that occurred during the rally, called Mr. Comperatore a “good man” who lost his life protecting his family, and held a moment of silence in memory of him. The former president also announced that his friend would donate $1 million to support the former fire chief and his surviving family.

Comperatore was shot and killed on Saturday at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who fired multiple shots into the crowd and the former president.

During the attack, the former fire chief lunged at his daughters, who were with him, ultimately saving their lives from the bullets.

Trump also mentioned two other people in the crowd, 57-year-old David Duch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver, who were both injured during the attack and are reportedly in stable condition.

Earlier this week, Comperatore's wife, Helen, posted on social media that Trump had called to offer his condolences, but she specifically ignored a call from President Joe Biden, telling the New York Post that “my husband is a staunch Republican and would not have wanted to talk to me.”
