Alabama political leaders praised the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday following the justice's remarks. decided unanimously He opposed Colorado's efforts to exclude former President Trump from the 2024 primary ballot.
Colorado argued in court that President Trump's actions on January 6, 2020 constituted an “insurrection” and therefore disqualified him from running for office.
“We conclude that a state may disqualify a person holding or seeking to hold state office. However, each state has a constitutional right to Article 3 with respect to federal office, particularly the presidential office. “There is no authority to compel this,” the court said in a 9-0 decision.
Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) said this is “a huge victory for the Constitution.”

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall also joined in an amicus brief asking the court to reverse the ruling, saying, “The work that my colleagues and I have done to ensure that elections are decided by voters, not politicians and lawyers.'' I'm proud of that.''

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, who also participated in the court brief in the case, argued that the court was following the rule of law as set out in the U.S. Constitution.
