Children's of Alabama, one of the state's leading pediatric hospitals, received a $233,000 gift from a student-led organization at the University of Alabama.
UA MiracleThe largest student-led charity on campus revealed the news at its annual event last week.
“We are thrilled to complete our 13th year with the BAMAthon, which celebrates our hard work,” said Rachel Frick, UA Miracle President. “While on campus, we engaged more than 10,000 students, welcomed 80 families of current or former Alabama Children’s Club patients to UA’s campus, and raised more than $2.5 million. All proceeds go to , will be donated to the amazing programs we provide for children and the families they care for.”
Frick also said the organization not only raises money, but also teaches students the importance of caring for the community.

“In the past year alone, more than 14,000 children from Tuscaloosa County have been treated at Children's. Even though the facility is located in Birmingham, it has a huge impact on the local community.” she said. “The idea that this organization is bigger than us and that we’re raising money is something that I hope all of the participants in this year’s BAMAthon understand.”
“In addition to the impact this organization has had on UA students, hearing the stories of these miraculous families is one of the highlights of this event.”
UA Miracle is the largest student-led philanthropic organization on the school's campus. The group holds fundraising events at restaurants in the Tuscaloosa area and themed days on campus throughout the year.
