Vance Says Harris ‘Controlling’ Inflation Response Is Like Giving ‘Epstein Control Over Human Trafficking Policy’

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio equated Vice President Kamala Harris' “control” over inflation to giving the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein “control” over human trafficking policy.

Since Harris became the leading Democratic presidential candidate, the party's polls have seen a significant shift in her favor over former President Donald Trump. While some Republicans have questioned Trump's campaign messaging, Vance has argued that the American people will not “embrace” Harris' “fresh start,” dismissing her proposals as “the same old failed policies.”

“First of all, polls tend to grossly overestimate Democrats. We certainly saw that in the polls from the summer of 2020 and the summer of 2016. And of course, a lot of those polls were wrong come Election Day. And secondly, I would say, Kamala Harris certainly got a little excited a few weeks ago. But, Shannon, what we're really seeing from our internal data is that Kamala Harris has already settled in,” Vance said.

Vance argued that Harris' campaign officials are “concerned” about her ties to the Biden administration because voters have consistently expressed dissatisfaction with President Biden's job performance. “If you talk to people in the Kamala Harris campaign, they're very concerned about their position because the American people don't believe that Kamala Harris, who has been vice president for three and a half years, is going to address the inflation crisis tomorrow differently than she has for the last 1,300 days,” Vance continued.

“Shannon, giving Kamala Harris power over inflation policy is like giving Jeffrey Epstein power over human trafficking policy. The American people are a lot smarter than that. They won't accept the idea that Kamala Harris will get a fresh start,” Vance said. “She'll do what she did before – build on the failed policies of the Harris Administration and promote Kamala Harris instead of firing her. That's what I think most Americans will do in November.”

After unveiling her economic plan in a speech in North Carolina, Harris faced strong backlash from experts who called her proposals, such as a federal ban on “corporate price gouging” in food and grocery stores, unrealistic. Website As of Sunday, Harris was leading Trump in opinion polls.

Latest ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos PollHarris has a six-point lead over Trump, with 51% of likely voters approving of her to Trump's 45%. Among registered voters, the data shows her lead is narrowing, with 49% approving of her and Trump still at 45%.

Despite Harris' national lead, voters still don't trust the vice president on key issues like the economy, inflation and immigration, according to the ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll. Trump leads Harris by nine points when it comes to who voters trust to handle both the economy and inflation, and by 10 points when it comes to handling the U.S.-Mexico border, the data showed.
