Veteran elected official from Clarke County switches to the Republican Party: ‘We are pleased to welcome her as a member’

Republicans Welcome New Members in Alabama

Republicans are incorporating new officials and former Democrats into their ranks in Alabama.

On Tuesday, Clark County Licensing Commissioner Linda Goodman officially switched to the Republican Party. She was recognized at a recent Clark County Republican Executive Committee meeting, making her the latest addition to the county’s Republican officials.

“Linda is an outstanding licensing commissioner and a dedicated public servant,” noted Summer Padgett, the Chair of the Clark County Republican Party. “She consistently goes above and beyond for her constituents, and we’re thrilled to have her join the Republican Party.”

Goodman has been a licensing commissioner for 22 years and is well-regarded among voters due to her long service. During a conversation with local Republican leaders, she expressed that the Democratic Party’s values have shifted recently, moving away from the ideals she supports.

John Wall, Chairman of the ALGOP, commended Goodman’s decision. He argued that the current Democratic Party has lost touch with the values of Alabama voters.

“Democrats have abandoned traditional Alabama values and are disconnected from working families,” Wall remarked. “The Alabama Republican Party will always advocate for individual rights, parental rights, safe communities, and a bright future. I’ve heard great things about Linda’s character and dedication, and I look forward to meeting her and welcoming her into our Republican family.”

Additionally, ALGOP is actively working with regional offices, having launched an extensive municipal program designed to assist candidates in the upcoming runoff. This program offers targeted resources including direct mail, grassroots mobilization, voter text messaging, and digital advertising.

Goodman’s transition contributes to the Republican Party’s growing influence in Alabama. As reported by ALGOP, the party currently holds over 73% of all elected offices across federal, state, and county levels.
