Thieves in Sacramento were caught on video struggling to break into a jewelry store using a sledgehammer on Tuesday afternoon, KCRA 3 reported.

“The Sheriff's Office received a call reporting two individuals with a sledgehammer smashing an outdoor display case containing Rolex watches and attempting to gain access to the items,” Deputy Andres Lopez of the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said in a statement, news outlets reported.
“Workers actually entered the display case, took the Rolex watch and items and fled the scene,” Lopez added. “When the suspects saw this, they stopped breaking the window and fled in a vehicle.”

The audacity of the daytime robbery stunned local business owners, including Mark Salare of nearby Nectar Juice Bar.

According to KCRA 3, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident using video from the area's extensive surveillance system, which includes herd safety cameras and license plate readers.
