Video Shows Debris From Exploding Manhole Narrowly Miss Woman, Grandchildren

According to ABC 7 Eyewitness News, an explosive manhole threw concrete and debris into the air, nearly hitting a woman and two grandchildren in New York on Easter Sunday.

Lisa Davis and her two grandchildren returned from Easter Egg Hunt when the incident occurred, outlet It has been reported. The video shows a woman pushing a stroller with her child. The sidewalk behind them suddenly explodes in footage, throwing concrete and debris at them in the air. Women and children can be seen rushing out of the scene as they push the stroller.

Davis recalled his experience in an interview with ABC 7. “I was ‘Oh, oh my god, I don’t know,’ I didn’t know where to go,” she said. “I didn’t know what to do other than grab my grandson and run.” (Related: Virginia woman killed while gardening on Easter Sunday)

“The manhole in the next corner also exploded, so I couldn’t actually run straight ahead of me towards the corner,” she told ABC 7.

Three manholes in the city exploded in the chain reaction that day, the Poughkeepsie Fire Station (CPFD) said. Firefighters arrived at the scene and it was determined that the explosion was caused by accumulation of gas.

“The company discovered high levels of carbon monoxide in multiple buildings, and residents of all buildings on that block were evacuated until gas levels were eased,” the CFPD wrote.

“Leg, one leg that lost my family,” Davis told ABC News.

“I’m a bit scared, but I wasn’t that scared,” Davis’s 6-year-old grandson told the outlet about his own reaction to the incident.

CPFD said he had not received a report of injuries.
