Video Shows Mountain Lion Mangling Giant Schnauzer In Backyard. Dog Somehow Breaks Free And Survives

A giant schnauzer was lucky to escape alive after being attacked by a mountain lion in La Verne, Los Angeles on Saturday night.

A terrifying mountain lion attacked a 3-year-old giant black schnauzer named Holly Jolly. Owners Steve and Nicole were startled by the sound of yelling in their garden. They rushed to see their dog just before it became pup food for a hungry cougar. The homeowner's surveillance camera captured the moment of Holly's harrowing escape. according to K.T.L.A.

The incident happened around 9pm on Saturday as Holly was getting some fresh air before calling in for the night. according to ABC7.

“I heard screaming and my husband said, 'Is that Holly?' And I said, 'No, I think that's the TV,' and he said, 'No, I think that's Holly. ''' Nicole told KTLA.

Nicole's husband Steve yelled to scare the mountain lion, giving Holly a chance to escape the cat's deadly claws.

“As soon as I heard about the intensity of the fighting, I thought, 'I can't do it,'” Steve told KTLA. “I was imagining a skunk or something messing with her here, so I went inside her and grabbed her gun.”

According to KTLA, Ring camera footage showed the mountain lion returned about 20 minutes later and appeared to be searching for the injured Holly. (Related: Man uses snowboard to fight cougar at Utah ski resort)

Holly survived, but suffered cuts to her neck that required multiple stitches. according to KBTX.
