Video Shows Suspected Cocaine Dealers Jump Into Sea During Dramatic Boat Chase

Two suspected drug smugglers were captured on video trying to flee from police in a motorboat in England before jumping overboard to avoid arrest, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.

The video from June 24 shows Bruce Knowles, 55, and Ferhat Gumrukgoglu, 31, travelling in a rigid hull inflatable boat (RHIB) and failing to stop despite orders from officers in a Border Force cutter. YeahThe footage can be seen as a Border Patrol cutter approaches the side of the RHIB and officers shouting: “Stop the boat! Stop the boat now!” and “We warned you! We warned you many times!” (Related: U.S. Coast Guard seizes $500 million worth of illegal drugs)

After slowing to a near halt, the suspects accelerate and attempt to flee. As Gumrukguguoglu jumps overboard, an officer can be heard yelling, “One man in the water, time it!”

Knowles, who was driving the boat, eventually came to a halt and the officer told him to stand down, “We warned you,” and Knowles jumped into the water.

Police pursued Knowles at the scene and arrested him, according to the YEP, while police from Norfolk and Suffolk then tracked down Gamrukhgoglu and arrested him in Wrentham, the paper said.

Officers from the National Crime Agency searched the ship and found 350 kilos of cocaine, worth an estimated $51 million, YEP reported.

Investigators said the suspects recovered the drugs from a larger vessel in French waters and took them to the UK, the YEP said.

Both men were charged with importing a controlled drug and pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court on August 20, the paper reported.
