The video shows the whale leaping out of the water and hitting the white boat with its mouth, two people on board. One of the boaters jumps into the water while the other clings to the side of the overturned vessel to escape. The video also shows one of the brothers fishing and looking at the capsized boat before taking control of his own boat.
Wyatt Yeager, 19, and Collin Yeager, 16, are brothers from Maine who captured the incident on video. WCVB 5 reportCollin was reportedly recording, and Wyatt can be seen in the video near the boat's helm.
“I was lucky I was facing the right direction because I could see it going up,” Collin told the outlet.
“I saw it coming up and I just thought, 'Oh my gosh, it's going to hit the boat,' and then it started flipping over,” Wyatt was quoted as saying.
One of the occupants of the capsized boat jumped into the water and the other was thrown overboard, the media reported. The Yeager brothers told the media that they pulled both hapless boaters from the water and neither of them had any visible injuries.
The US Coast Guard confirmed in a statement that it had received a dispatch call reporting that the 23-foot boat had been capsized by a whale and that the fishermen had been rescued by other crew members, according to the media.
