Ring video shared by police in Spokane, Washington, captured the moment three vehicles crashed after a high-speed chase on Friday, according to KREM 2 News.
The accident, in which seven officers were injured, occurred as police vehicles were pursuing a fleeing suspect towards an intersection where the suspect's vehicle collided with a police armored vehicle, police said. KREM2 News.
Ring video shows the suspect speeding into an intersection, crashing into an armored vehicle and spinning the vehicle 180 degrees. The pursuing officer slams into the rear of the suspect's vehicle, causing it to spin in the middle of the road. “The injuries are tragic but we are thankful that no lives were lost,” Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown said. Spokesman Review.
According to the Spokesman-Review, Chief Lundgren said the pursuit began after officers on patrol observed that the suspect's vehicle had recently been involved in an alleged drive-by shooting.
The newspaper reported that officers called for additional backup after the suspect fled the traffic stop.
According to the Spokesman-Review, a police armored vehicle that was in the area at the time attempted to block the suspect's path, causing a three-vehicle collision.
“What's disturbing about an incident like this is that you have a suspected shooter from a drive-by, which is extremely reckless and dangerous behavior,” Lundgren said, highlighting the dangers of police action. “Then you have a high-speed pursuit as officers try to make an arrest, and there but for the grace of God no one dies.”
