With the greatest generation of World War II-era veterans fading into history and baby boomers working long into retirement, Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System, DAV (American Veterans with Disabilities) Transportation Network is recruiting additional volunteers to provide transportation for qualified veterans to and from scheduled medical appointments at facilities in northern Arizona. Last year, DAV volunteer drivers provided more than 500 rides to veterans, scheduled medical appointments to and from Veterans Affairs medical facilities. Demand for experienced transport is increasing year by year.

“We need someone who recognizes the service and sacrifice of our heroes and is committed to making sure our country honors what it has promised to its veterans,” said Bruce Nogger, DAV Transportation Network Hospital Services Coordinator. “Our program provides qualified veterans with a free and very important service, but without someone willing and able to support it, we cannot keep up with demand.” .”

To volunteer for the DAV Transportation Network, drivers must have a valid state-issued license, show proof of personal motor vehicle insurance, undergo a basic physical exam through the VA, and participate in the program’s one-year volunteer period. need to do it. VA will provide all necessary physical training for the driver, as well as the vehicle used for transportation. Also, every volunteer driver who works a minimum of 4 hours is entitled to a free meal at his campus in Maine Prescott VA.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer driver do not have to be veterans or DAV members. We are looking for dedicated individuals who want to serve veterans and show appreciation for all they have done for our country.

For more information about becoming a volunteer driver, contact the Northern Arizona VA Volunteer Services Office at (928) 776-6013.
