Warning: Scam from fraudulent number claims to Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office collecting court fees

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says it has recently received calls and emails from Yavapai County residents who say they have been contacted by someone claiming to be a YCSO employee. Actual Christine Green, YCSO director of public and government relations;

Each caller gave the same phone number: “(928) 361-9187.”

“I can assure you that that is not us,” Green said. “The sheriff's office will never contact you to discuss any obligations, including missed jury duty, with respect to the state of Arizona or any county court.”

Such court-related calls will be answered by the Clerk of Court, if applicable, and will not be responded to by YCSO or any other law enforcement agency.

“We also will not call you to solicit payments or fines,” Green added. “We will not threaten you with arrest, and we or any law enforcement agency will not call or contact you to solicit.”

“If you receive a similar call or email, YCSO encourages you not to answer the phone if you don't recognize the number,” Green said, “let it go to voicemail and, if the scammer claims to be from the sheriff's office or an official, go online and look up the actual phone number.”

As a precaution, always call the actual number to verify rather than calling the number provided. The YCSO Front Desk phone number is (928) 771-3260. The YCSO Fraud Division phone number is (928) 771-3299.

If possible, save the voicemail recording and provide it to law enforcement.
