Wendell Phillips Blum was born in Tillamook, Oregon on January 1, 1923 and died on January 17, 2023 at the age of 100 and 16 days to spend eternity with the Lord at his home in Tillamook, Oregon. I was.
Wendell was born in their home on McCormick Loop Road, the fifth child of Alwyn and Eva (Phillips) Blum. He attended Grade School in Hunt, South in Prairie Grade and Junior High School, Liberty School in ninth grade, and Tillamook in High.
He married his sweetheart, Vera Biggs, on June 2, 1946. Married 22 days before her 75 years and her 10 months she died on April 24, 2022. Moon.
When asked how he would describe himself, one grandson said, “He loved his wife and children and prayed for their salvation. He wasn’t easily offended, he was wise, and he was multi-talented.
Wendell began driving log trucks in 1946. From 1955 to his 1960s, he ran a logging business with his brother-in-law Marvin his Anderson. He retired in 1982, returning to driving his truck and spending his last 19 years at the Crown in his Sellerbach.
After retiring, Wendell and Vera were “snowbirds” wintering in Yuma, Arizona with various family and friends, but travel became difficult. Over the years, they’ve traveled in campers to Alaska, New England, and the Gulf Coast.
Wendell was a sociable person and could strike up a friendly conversation with anyone. He loved to tell jokes and we would always laugh and pretend we hadn’t heard him even if we had heard him before.
He had a knack for fixing things. He has repaired countless toys, electronics and appliances over the years. He was very talented in woodworking and has given children many treasured gifts over the years. They become treasured family heirlooms.
Wendell’s family began attending Tillamook Church in the Nazarene in 1929 when he was six years old. From 1950 to 1959, when a new church was built on 3rd Avenue, Wendell and his father and brother were privileged to help build it. He has three sons: Wendell Blum Jr, (Deb), Yuma, AZ, John Blum (Chris), Tillamook, OR, and Randy Blum (Valerie), Tigard, OR; four daughters: Debbie Motsinger (Mike), Tricia Swope, Barb Blum Schmitz (Mike), all of Tillamook, and Susan Furlong (Dave), Thousand Oaks, CA. Daughters-in-law, Sue Blum (Larry) and Diana Blum (Mark). 26 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is the 7th-dan grandson and his 26th-dan great-grandson. He lost his beloved wife Vera, his son Mark Blum in 2002 and Larry Blum in 2008. and by three great-grandchildren. His parents; Herbert Blum, Raymond Blum, brothers David (Lowell) Blum, sisters Eloise Legg and Alma Anderson.
A private family cemetery will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Sunset Heights Memorial Gardens to be buried next to his beloved wife and son Mark.
A memorial service will be held at Tillamook Church in the Nazarene on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 11:30 am. Anyone can participate.
Our dads, grandpas and great grandpas will be sorely missed, but they will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children and their families. We were so lucky to have him in our lives.
