Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said on CNN Tuesday that former President Joe Biden made a mistake in granting a last-minute preemptive pardon just before the end of his term.
On Monday, minutes before President Donald Trump was sworn into office, the White House announced that Biden had granted preemptive pardons to family members, members of the Jan. 6 task force and others. On “Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” Blitzer asked Durbin if he thought this was the “wrong” move, to which the congressman responded that the pardons needed to “end.” said. “Honestly, I think so. I like Joe Biden and I think he’s been a good president,” Durbin said. “But as I said in a previous interview, where does this end? The need for some sort of basic pay cut or amnesty to be offered on a regular basis to everyone currently involved in government.” I think this should end now.”

“I posed the question to Mr. [Kash] Patel,” Durbin added. “Are you going to file a lawsuit against an individual in retaliation for a political grievance? He said he wouldn’t do that. Well, if that’s his situation, let him put up with it.”
In his final days as president, Biden granted preemptive pardons to Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, nine members of the Jan. 6 task force, and five members of his family. In justifying his pardon for Fauci, Milley and members of the special committee on January 6, Biden said the decision was made because the group did not deserve “unwarranted and politically motivated prosecution.” He said that it was given.
As for Mr Biden’s family – brother Frank, brother James, James’ wife Sarah Biden, sister Valerie Owens and husband John Owens – she said the “baseless and politically motivated investigation” was “terrible”. Ta.[ing] “It wreaks havoc on the lives, safety and economic security of the targeted individuals and their families,” he said, urging him to grant amnesty.
Biden has faced significant backlash from both sides of the aisle since the announcement, with political analysts saying the move was a stain on Biden’s final days in office. CBS News poll released Biden left office with an approval rating of 37%, while 63% disapproved of his job, according to Sunday’s announcement.
