The Auburn Tigers might not reach the same heights as their in-state rival, the Alabama Crimson Tide, but there are at least three former Auburn players who are expected to find new teams when the draft concludes.
Let’s take a closer look at these athletes and their projected landing spots.
Jarquez Hunter, a standout running back, had quite the impressive career at Auburn. Despite his talent, he hasn’t been mentioned in the early Round 1 discussions—such a shame really, considering how remarkable he was. Projections place him in the fourth to sixth round range.
Then there’s Lambert Smith, who only spent his final year at Auburn after transferring from Pennsylvania. It was a tough year for the team overall, but he shone bright, throwing for just under 1,000 yards with eight touchdowns. Given the quarterback challenges, Smith showed he has what it takes to compete at the next level. Some predictions suggest he could go in the sixth or seventh round, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes even higher.
Asante is another player of note. He had a lengthy six-year college career, initially playing three years in North Carolina before moving to Auburn. As a linebacker, he became a defensive leader and a fan favorite during his time. Draft estimates see him going in the sixth or seventh round too, but whoever picks him up could be getting a real steal.
