Will Tuberville send the National Guard to Birmingham and Montgomery as Trump did in DC? Absolutely.

Referring to a recent murder-free week in DC, President Trump’s federal intervention in local law enforcement has sparked hundreds of arrests. On Friday, the governor of Alabama mentioned his commitment to tackling crime in major cities.

During an interview on “Longshore and McKnight,” Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn), who is running for governor in 2026, was asked about possibly deploying the Alabama State Guard to combat crime in Birmingham and Montgomery.

“You’re right,” Tuberville responded. “President Trump is offering this opportunity to governors. I know that Governor Ivey is in a tight spot. We’ve either sent many National Guards to the border or dealt with significant border issues. She can’t be available all day.”

“I believe I could probably make two or three dozen arrests based on what I’ve seen in my five years in Washington, D.C.,” he added.

Since Trump’s announcement about federalizing D.C. police on August 11, more than 700 arrests have taken place in the capital.

This year, the US News & World Report ranked Magic City 15th among the 25 most dangerous U.S. cities.

In response to the murder-free week in D.C., Tuberville praised law enforcement on Thursday for their efforts in bettering the city.

If Tuberville becomes Alabama’s governor in January 2027, similar impacts might be seen in the state’s larger cities.
