Woman Is Arrested in Death of a Young Girl in Graham County

SAFORD, Arizona (AP) — A woman was arrested in connection with the death of a girl whose body was found in Graham County almost two years ago, officials said Wednesday.

A county sheriff’s official said 38-year-old Amber Langley is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in addition to theft and fraudulent schemes and schemes.

It was unclear Wednesday whether Langley still had a lawyer who could speak on her behalf.

Hunter reported finding a human remains wrapped in a plastic tarp near a fence east of U.S. Route 191 in October 2020, sheriff officials said.

An autopsy by the Pima County coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide.

Sheriff officials say a juvenile victim has apparently been identified, but her name has not been released because of her age.

The FBI and police in Safford and Thatcher last month helped a sheriff’s deputy execute a search warrant as part of a murder investigation that led to Langley’s arrest.

Authorities say some items collected through search warrants will be sent to a forensic facility for further analysis, and elements of the investigation continue to be ongoing.
