By Yavapai County Superior Court
Yavapai County Juvenile Court celebrated the adoption of eight children into forever families on November 8, 2024. National Adoption Day is traditionally Nov. 23, but the celebration started early at the Juvenile Justice Center in Prescott.
Families were welcomed to the Adoption Day event by cute animals from Itty Bitty Pony Petting Zoo, along with Prescott and his cat-in-the-hat pet partners Hope, Baldo, and Sadie.
Balloon artist Cody Williams and face painters Cody and Christina from QT Entertainment provided amazing balloon creations and beautiful face painting for the children. Officer Steve Sellers of the Chino Valley Police Department and his partner dog Sirius interacted with the children and their families. Children were able to explore the Prescott Police Department’s SWAT vehicle and the Prescott Fire Department’s Fire Engine 75. The children also enjoyed playing in the bounce house and playing in the garden.
The Yavapai County Juvenile Probation Department kept the hot dogs hot and fresh on the barbecue, and family and friends enjoyed cupcakes, popcorn, and other snacks provided by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers. Photographers Christine Beyer and Jody Champion were on site to capture the family’s special memories.
The courtroom was decorated with children’s books, stuffed animals, balloons, and quilts from the Mountain Top Quilters Guild, which provides beautiful quilts year-round to children in the courtroom.
After the hearing, families and children were able to take photos with Judge Anna Young and select handmade quilts, stuffed animals and books. Judge Young also provided each adopted child with a copy of a Dr. Seuss book. Oh, the places you go!
Presiding Judge Anna Young reported, “The Yavapai County Juvenile Court was able to host a fun adoption day at the Prescott Juvenile Justice Center due to the hard work of our court, CASA, juvenile probation staff and volunteers.” did. The whole family had a wonderful time and enjoyed all the activities and feasts made possible by generous funding from the Yavapai Casa for Kids Foundation. Judge Rhonda Repp and I had a wonderful time helping the seven families who attended the event complete their adoptions. ”
