Yavapai County Declares September as National Preparedness Month, Encouraging Residents to Build a More Resilient Community | Prescott Valley Times local news

ARIZONA – The Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM) is proud to announce that the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed September as “National Preparedness Month” in Yavapai County. This proclamation highlights our efforts to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for emergencies and disasters and aligns with our vision to create a more resilient community.

Last year, Yavapai County was hit by floods, wildfires, power outages, severe thunderstorms, winter storms, and many other disasters. These disasters usually occur with little to no warning, so it's important to stay prepared, not just during the month of September, but at all times.

“Preparedness is a state of mind, the ability to react and survive using the tools and supplies you have at hand,” said Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Chairman Craig Brown. “Ask yourself, 'What do I need to survive?' and have a collection of what you have close at hand ready for when you need it.”

National Disaster Preparedness Month is an important time for residents to take note of and proactively prepare for various hazards that may affect their community. This year's theme is “Prepared Every Day,” emphasizing the importance of daily preparation. Throughout the month of September, YCOEM will share tips and practical advice each day across all social media channels to help residents prepare for various hazards that may affect Yavapai County. To see posts, follow YCOEM on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn and NextDoor.

“Preparedness is a shared responsibility, it's the responsibility of the entire community,” said Emergency Manager Ashley Alquist. We encourage all Yavapai County residents to take this opportunity to review and update their emergency plans and supplies. Staying informed and prepared will help create a more resilient and prepared community.
