PHOENIX — Yavapai County officials announced Tuesday that a suspect was arrested in New York last week on suspicion of supplying fentanyl to a man who had a fatal overdose in 2021.
Filippo Alviano, 38, was arrested in New York on Dec. 7 and faces charges including manslaughter, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
Investigators say Alviano gave 28-year-old Trevor Rauch fentanyl in August 2021, the same day Rauch left the rehabilitation center where he was staying.
Albiano has since moved to New York City, where an investigation is ongoing between Yavapai County detectives and Suffolk County Police.
Yavapai County detectives flew to New York, where Albiano was arrested and imprisoned in Suffolk County Jail while awaiting extradition to Arizona.
“As far as we know about the dangers of fentanyl, there is no grace in anyone who knowingly sells it to others,” Yavapai County Sheriff David Rose said in a release.
“We thank the Suffolk County Police Department for their assistance in this matter and cherish the time PANT spent bringing Albiano to justice.”
The case was the first in Yavapai County to be charged with manslaughter for a fatal overdose resulting from the drug trade.
The investigation was led by the Partners Against Drug Trafficking team, a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional task force.
