Yavapai County Enacts Stage 2 Fire Restrictions in Zones 3, 4, & 5

***Updated: Starting at 8am on Friday, May 30th, 2025, starting at 8am. Wow The county will enact fire restrictions for Zone 1 (1) and Stage 1 in two zones due to the increased fire risk and persistent dryness.

These restrictions include one fire zone and two fire zones, including areas in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Dewey Hambolt, Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Verde Valley and surrounding community areas.

Activities prohibited under stage 1 fire restrictions:

  • Fire, construction, maintenance, or fire use. Includes fires that are fueled by flammable materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes, and coal.
    • Exclusion: Fires are permitted fueled by flammable materials such as wood, wood pellet smokers, charcoal briquettes, and/or coal, as defined by ordinances.
  • Outdoor smoking.
    • Exclusion: Smoking within enclosed vehicles as defined by ordinances or within developed sites
  • Uses of explosive targets, tracer rounds, or burnt Cen bullets.

Starting at 8am on Friday, May 23, 2025, Yabapai County Fire Restriction Zones 3 (3), 4 (4) and 5 (5) will work with the Department of Forestry and Fire Management and Land Management to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions to reduce the risk of wildfires. This implementation marks the first use of the updated Yabapai County Outdoor Fire Ordinance 2025-2. This will replace Ordinance 2020-2.

Stage 2 fire restrictions have been preemptively enacted by an interim order signed by Chairman Mallory on May 22, 2025. The formal resolution will be made before the Yabapai County Board of Supervisors for approval at the next meeting on June 4, 2025. Zones: 3 (3), 4, and 5 (5) including areas in Ashfork, Seligman, Black Canyon City, Congress, Northwickenburg, People’s Valley, Yalnell, Willhoyt and unincorporated areas.

Activities prohibited under stage 2 fire restrictions:

  • Fire, construct, maintain or use any type of fire that is fueled by flammable materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes, and coal.
    • Exemption: Portable stoves, wooden pellet smokers, grills, fire rings, or other pressurized liquid oil gas (LPG) devices can be turned on/off if they are on the developed site, as defined by the ordinance.
  • Outdoor smoking.
    • Exemption: Smoking is permitted within surrounded vehicles or on developed sites as defined by the ordinance.
  • Uses internal combustion engines for activities such as landscaping, real estate maintenance, and home repairs.
    • Exemption: Internal combustion engines equipped with spark arrest devices can be operated for home-specific activities such as landscaping, real estate maintenance, repairs, and more.
  • Uses of explosive targets, tracer rounds, or burnt Cen bullets.
  • Outdoor mechanical and industrial operations including welding and the use of acetylene or other torches with open flames.

There are no exemptions.

Additionally, all forms of outdoor burning are strictly prohibited, including open fires, campfires, fireworks and burn-related activities.

These fire restrictions remain in effect until the wildfire risk level decreases. Fire and safety agencies involved in this decision collectively decide when conditions allow the lifting of the fire ban.
