Yavapai County Engages Federal Leaders on Critical Rural Issues

Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Brooks Compton, Supervisor Nickycheck and County Manager Morley Thompson have recently returned from the National Association of County and County (NACO) Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. (SRS) Funds.

During the meeting, supervisor Compton, supervisor check and county manager Thompson had the opportunity to meet in person with Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, discussing the unique challenges faced by Yabapai County and other rural areas in the state.

The key focus of their discussions was on the importance of PILT and SRS in Yabapai County’s public safety, Firewise grants and road funding.

“The NACO Legislative Council provides a valuable platform for county officials to directly defend our members,” said Coach Brooks Compton. “A meeting with Senator Kelly has allowed us to highlight the importance of federal fundraising in meeting local needs.”

Supervisor Nikkicheck emphasized the importance of working with federal partners in addressing local challenges. “Rural counties often face unique hurdles in balancing growth, natural resource conservation and rural character,” Supervisor Check said. “The discussion with Senator Kelly focused on promoting a collaborative approach to developing effective solutions that allow local governments to make informed decisions for their communities.”

Supervisor attendance at the NACO Legislative Conference highlights Yabapai County’s commitment to active engagement with federal leaders to ensure that the needs of rural communities are expressed at the national level.

Vice-Speaker Brooks Compton also had the opportunity to thank Senator Kelly for his instrumental role in promoting agreements between the BNSF Railroad and the Arizona Legislature community. Thanks to Senator Kelly’s intervention, the BNSF Railway has agreed to fund the extension of the waterline under the railway, ensuring the continued delivery of important water resources to Congressional residents.

“Senator Kelly’s dedication to solving this critical infrastructure issue for Congress is deeply grateful,” Vice-Chairman Brooks Compton said. “His efforts demonstrate his commitment to the well-being of rural Arizonan, ensuring a reliable water supply for this community.”
