Yavapai County Enters Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on June 29

The four zones under Ordinance 2020-2 (Northern, Central, Eastern, and Southern) are specially defined areas within the county’s unincorporated areas and include various cities such as Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey Humboldt, and Mayer. and towns. , Kordes Junction, Black Canyon City, Congress, North Wickenburg, People’s Valley, Yarnell, Wilhoite, Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, and areas not incorporated herein.

Prohibited activities include the sale or use of fireworks. Construct, maintain, participate in, or use bonfires or campfires, except within developed recreational or improved sites. Smoking, except when parked in enclosed vehicles or buildings, in developed recreational areas, or in outdoor areas no less than 3 feet in diameter that are empty or free of any combustible materials. Operating or using equipment with internal combustion engines or external combustion engines without spark arrestors properly installed, maintained and in good working order as detailed in Ordinance 2020-2 .

Yavapai County Supervisory Board Chairman James Gregory said, “As a community, we must put safety first and do our part to prevent accidents and incidents that can lead to fires. In these days of dangerous fire weather, the importance of these safety measures cannot be overemphasized.”

Yavapai County Emergency Manager Ashley Earlquist said, “Despite winter rains delaying the start of the fire season, the fire risk remains high. Enacting a no-fires enactment is a necessary precaution. and we take it very seriously, and this time is especially important, and I recommend the Board to implement this measure to protect the lives of local people, their homes and natural resources. As fellow residents of Yavapai County, we appreciate your cooperation in this effort to keep us all safe.”

This fire ban will remain in effect until the risk is mitigated and government agencies agree that the restrictions may be lifted.
