Yavapai County Expands Free Slash Drop-Off Days to Reduce Wildfire Risk | Prescott Valley Times local news

In response to the continued lack of moisture and a significant increase in fire risk across Yabapai County, the Yabapai County Board of Supervisors has voted to approve the expansion of the annual free slash drop-off date program, at its Board of Supervisors, which will be meeting on March 19, 2025.

Originally scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025, the programme began two weeks prior to March 20, 2025 and runs until June 15, 2025.

“The current dryness and increased fire risk are serious concerns for all of Yabapai County,” said Brooks Compton, vice-chairman of the Yabapai County Board of Supervisors. Supervisor Chris Kunho said, “By increasing the start date and extending the free slash drop-off date, we are giving residents the time and resources to create defensible spaces around the home and protecting our community.”

The free slash drop-off date program allows Yavapai County residents to offer stacked slashes, including tree limbs, brushes and other vegetation, free of charge, to designated county relocation stations in Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Congress, Mayer, Paulden, Seligman and Skull Valley. The initiative encourages residents to clear potential wildfire fuel properties of 5-30 feet from all structures, remove all debris and dead vegetation from the roof, deck and ground, reduce the chance of wildfire spreading, and make a significant contribution to overall fire safety efforts.
