Yavapai County Expands Stage 2 Fire Restrictions to Zone 2 Amid Heightened Wildfire Risk | Prescott Valley Times local news

Yabapai County, Arizona – Starting on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Yabapai County will establish stage 2 fire restrictions in Zone 2 due to increased fire risk and persistent dryness. These restrictions have been preemptively enacted by an interim order signed by Chairman Mallory on June 17, 2025 and will be presented for formal approval by Yabapai.

The County Supervisory Board will be at its next meeting on July 2, 2025.

This coordinated effort is consistent with regional cooperatives, including the Coconino National Forest and the Sedona Fire District, which are also expected to implement stage 2 fire restrictions on or around June 18, 2025.

Residents are highly encouraged to access available maps yavapaiready.gov/fireban Under “Fire Prohibition Information,” identify specific zones and understand the restrictions in place.

These restrictions include two fire zones, including parts of Sedona, Camp Verde and Verde Valley, and parts of the surrounding communities in the area that are not incorporated.

As a reminder, three zones 3 (3), four and five zones, including Ashfork, Seligman, Black Canyon City, Congress, Northwickenburg, People’s Valley, Yarnell, Willhoyt and areas in the unedited area, remain under stage 2 fire restrictions on May 23, which were caught up in the management of the Forest Service and the Forest Service. Also under stage 2 fire restrictions. Zone 1 and Prescott National Forest are under Stage 1 fire restrictions.

Activities prohibited under stage 2 fire restrictions:

•Fire, construct, maintain or use any type of fire that is fueled by flammable materials such as wood, charcoal, briquettes, and coal.

Exclusions: Portable stoves, wooden pellet smokers, grills, fire rings, or other pressurized liquid oil gas (LPG) devices that can be turned on/off if they are on the developed site as defined by the ordinance.

• Outdoor smoking.

Exclusion: Smoking is permitted within surrounded vehicles or on developed sites as defined by the ordinance.

•Uses internal combustion engines for activities such as landscaping, real estate maintenance, and home repairs.

Exclusion: Internal combustion engines with spark stopping devices may be operated for home-specific activities, such as landscaping, real estate maintenance, repairs, etc.

•Uses explosive targets, tracer rounds, or burnt Cen bullets.

There are no exemptions.

• Outdoor machinery and industrial operations including welding and the use of acetylene or other torches with open flames.

There are no exemptions.

Additionally, the use of acceptable consumer fireworks is prohibited. This applies to both public and private property across all fire-free zones in Yabapai County. Fireworks, even legal, pose a serious wildfire risk and are not permitted while restrictions are in place.

These fire restrictions remain in effect until the wildfire risk level decreases. Fire and safety agencies involved in this decision collectively decide when conditions allow the lifting of the fire ban.
