Yavapai County looks to fill District 2 vacancy

James Gregory [R] He officially left the Yabapai County Board of Supervisors’ District 2 seats during a meeting in Cottonwood on Wednesday, Feb. 19, after submitting his resignation letter to the county recorder’s office.

“It was a joy,” Gregory said. “It’s bittersweet. I’ve built many great relationships over the years with mayor, managers and members as supervisors. It was a truly enjoyable experience. I’ll miss you guys so deeply. Thank you.”

The board then took a 15-minute break and congratulated him on being named Tad Weagal’s successor as Williams Police Chief.

“Chief Gregory is an Air Force veteran and came to Williams after a prominent 30-year career at the Prescott Valley Police Department,” the department said in a January 30 press release. “We believe that Chief Gregory’s experience and dedication to the law enforcement profession will be extremely profitable to the Williams Police Department and the entire city of Williams.”

Gregory was sworn into his new position on Thursday, February 13th by Mayor Williams Don Dent.

“As a new supervisor, I really admire the Gregory supervisor. Nikkicheck, Supervisor for Yabapai County District 3. [D] I said this during the meeting. “He was a great partner in the 3rd district and taught me a lot about how to be made public in a very sincere and engaging way. So, I will continue to admire you, but I hope for the best in your next chapter.”

“It was an incredible seven weeks,” said District 4 supervisor Chris Kunyo. [R] I said. “I [came] At the previous meeting, and I love the way you run the meeting. I loved you showing complete respect for the public and the ability to speak about what they relate to them. ”

Fill the vacant room

Following the meeting, the board held a study group to discuss filling vacant seats. Gregory won reelection by defeating Wiley Klein in the Republican primary without opposition in the general election. Klein says he is seeking Gregory’s appointment to the seat.

The board is currently seeking applications for Gregory’s successor. Gregory’s successor must be at least 18 years old.

Applicants must submit letters of interest, resumes, financial disclosure statements, and affidavits of conflict of interest. These are available online online at Yavapaiaz.gov, located under the “News” tab, by 5pm on Friday, March 7th.

“The Board of Supervisors will be able to review eligible applicants and appoint a replacement for the Yabapai County District 2 Board of Supervisors at a regular scheduled meeting at 9am on April 16th,” the Yabapai County press release said.

Deputy County Manager Martin Brennan reminded the board that the move would fail when there was no fifth supervisor.
