The Yabapai County Development Services Department is looking for facilities throughout Yabapai County where free environmental testing can be used. These checks are from buildings and land that are currently unused, empty or abandoned, and are in the unestablished area of Yabapai County. The goal is to prepare and realize these properties for new uses.
What is this?
Last year, Yavapai County and the Northern Arizona Council of Governments (NACOG) received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The money is intended to help transform the old, potential problem characteristics of Yavapai, Mojave, Navajo and Coconino counties (including cities such as Prescott, Camp Verde, Kingman, Shorow, Winslow, Flagstaff, and more) into valuable community assets.
How does this help property owners?
This grant provides a free environmental assessment for approved properties. This can include:
• Check the facility’s history for potential environmental concerns. • Testing buildings with asbestos and lead paint.
• Create a plan for ways to clean up issues that may be useful for future development.
The best parts are: Property owners do not need to do anything with the information they receive. It is only for their benefit and they can use it.
Why is this important?
If a property has an unknown past or its history is not well documented, it can be difficult to sell, lease or get a loan. This grant will help to remove worries about hidden environmental issues. By getting these free ratings, the property is much more attractive and valuable to investors, buyers and developers. It also makes it easier for owners to obtain funds.
