PHOENIX — Threats from those who believe former President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated accusations that the 2020 election was stolen have frustrated Yavapai County Rector Leslie Hoffman, who won’t be elected for another job. I was forced to leave my current position.
“I was going to retire from this position,” said Hoffman, a Republican. KTAR News The Gaydos and Chad Show on 92.3 FM on monday. “I wanted to stay here as long as the voters kept me here.
“It was very, very difficult.
Hoffman announced earlier this month that she will be stepping down from her position on July 22, citing “discomfort” she has been dealing with. 2020 election resultseven though Trump won more than 41,000 votes in strong Republican counties.
“Trump won overwhelmingly here,” Hoffman said. “So it’s very difficult to understand why we are now being scrutinized and accused of corruption and fraud, and it’s mind-boggling. You better get a lawyer.”
“Not the majority of people, but they are very picky. I can’t seem to do it.”
Over the past 21 months, Hoffman has consistently received hateful messages via social media and email while trying to prepare for the 2022 election. The sheriff’s office has also been patrolling her home for over a year and a half for threats.
She even said she had to quit many social events.
“I feel like I’m giving up the fight, but it just doesn’t work for me,” Hoffman said.
“But I was also offered a great job during all this. I wasn’t asking for anything. I wasn’t looking. I thought maybe this was my sign.”
As for who will take her place, Hoffman is confident the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors will pick the right candidate.
“I believe the board will appoint someone as smart as I am,” Hoffman said. “We always say it doesn’t matter who comes to our office and works with us, we’re all beige. It doesn’t matter which party.”
Longtime Yavapai County election administrator Lynn Constable also resigned for the same reasons as Hoffman. Her last day was Friday.
